FY 2019-20
Designed end-to-end of FreshWalls app, launching MVP version, iterating, working cross-functionally to bring it to life. Our teamwork blended design, technical work, and user insights for a well-rounded approach.
Problem:
Many wallpaper apps presented a dilemma for users - offering either low-quality free wallpapers or charging for higher-quality ones. This left users frustrated, feeling restricted in their wallpaper choices.
Solution:
FreshWalls introduced a simple solution by providing high-quality wallpapers for free downloads, addressing the gap in the market for quality, cost-free options.
Results:
The app gained massive popularity with over 1 million+ downloads on the Google Play Store. Users expressed satisfaction through 4/5 star ratings, with positive feedback totaling over 20K+ reviews and 90,000+ Daily Active Users (MAU)
The idea for FreshWalls was sparked by a combination of personal experiences and market observations.
The founder, an avid digital art enthusiast, often struggled to find high-quality wallpapers that truly reflected their style and mood.
Existing wallpaper apps fell short in terms of both content quality and user experience, leading to frustration and a realization of an unmet need in the market.
Launched Minimal viable Product (MVP) to test traction
Our MVP product launch was successful but we had a limited team to verify and push user's wallpaper.
There was also issue of users uploading copyrighted content which might lead to legal issues in future.
Instead we already had in-house digital designers who created exclusive wallpaper and also sourced free to use high quality wallpapers. 😃
Vertical scrolling was famous all thanks to TikTok/Instagram Reels, we thought why not implement this navigation?
Added the one click eye-button to quickly preview wallpaper
We only had Blur settings in MVP version
Many users requested to add more wallpaper customization settings, so we brought it in this update.
What i gained from this project:
Impact of design handoff on product quality
This project taught me the importance of focusing on the way the designs are handed off to the developers. With the new design system, the development time reduced significantly and also contributed to a positive collaborative experience between the teams.
Importance of a proper knowledge transfer
When a project is this long, teams change people change. But with the tight timelines, we cannot lose on efficiency. This is when I along with my team scheduled regular connects to clean and arrange all the files we have for an effective knowledge transfer when the time comes.
